Into the Unknown

As I prepare for, my daughter, Noelle’s 7th Frozen birthday party, I can’t help but have one song stuck in my head...”Into the Unknown.”

If you have seen Frozen 2 you know what song I am talking about and maybe it’s one that has gone on repeat for you too. When I first heard this song in the movie theater I immediately reflected on the change that was happening in my life. We had just decided to put our house up for sale and knew that God was calling us to something new. At the time it really did feel like we were going “into the unknown.”

In the song Elsa refers to a voice calling her that she wants to ignore and go about her day. Well that sounds familiar. We would sit on our couch and start talking about God’s calling on our life and then think “but what about the house?” and so we would go back to watching TV. Our house became an “idol” holding us back from the way God was directing us to further His Kingdom. After prayer and discernment, we took a step of faith and obedience.

Yes, into the unknown but with complete trust in God’s plan.

It might have felt like we were going into the “unknown” but thankfully we believe in a God that knows all and can be trusted completely. He is only positioning us for his divine purpose and for His glory.

One of the first examples I think about in the Bible is Abraham. God told him “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.” (Gen 12:1) Back then he was Abram and was about to be transformed by God’s plan for his life. God directed him and Abram obeyed. He left what he knew and even though he went “into the unknown” he went with God’s promises and faithfulness.
