A lot has changed in recent years. You’re probably thinking I mean the impact of covid but ironically our everyday lives were already headed this direction. As a culture we’ve become more closed off and isolated than ever. Technologies have found ways to keep us connected and can even promise deep and rich interactions but the majority of us don’t use them this way. The appeal of convenience and the thought that technologies can make our lives easier tend to produce surface level experiences with each other.
Just take what has happened to the door, for instance. Now we have gadgets that allow us never to have to answer the door. A surveillance camera allows us to never have to make contact with strangers or neighbors. It was designed so that we could always be at the door, even away from home, but if we can always see outside then we never have to discover who’s out there. We are present yet we are distant. Sure we’re spared of inconvenient interactions but we miss out on what interactions bring… friends. You are robbed of connection and so are they. Do you realize that they miss out on experiencing you? Our circles remain small.
Our kids are growing up thinking the doorbell means delivery not people. We open the door to see what we got, not discover who we could meet.
This is just one example… and we all know there are more.
If covid did anything to help us, it was to unleash that feeling inside. To listen to what our gut has been saying this whole time. Community is missing; but more than ever, it’s obvious we need it.
This is where the Church can shine. The Church should be known for meaningful relationships. This is the reason why Kingship is gathering in a way that places doing life together at the center of the experience. We are committed to making space where we are focused on spending time with each other. Part of the fullness of life that Jesus is offering us is a community rich in relationships... and we invite you to experience that with us.
"By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:35
