The Importance of Pausing to Pray

And the people of Israel said to Samuel, “Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that he may save us from the hand of the Philistines.” So Samuel took a nursing lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. And Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to attack Israel. But the Lord thundered with a mighty sound that day against the Philistines and threw them into confusion, and they were defeated before Israel.

// 1 Samuel 7:8-10

When you’re in the middle of a big project, it can be easy to be hyper-focused on all the details and problems to solve in order to get it done. In doing so, it also becomes easy to forget the bigger picture and forget to ground yourself with intentionality. If your not careful, you may go into battle without the One who obtains the winning blow.

The building is an enormous gift to Kingship, and we feel the weight of what God has entrusted us with. Yes, there have been many problems to solve and details to figure out. But to fixate on those things would distract us from what God is doing for Kingship and how he has already provided. This is why the Leadership of Kingship took time to meet at the construction site that is our soon-to-be church building to pray, as well as write out passages of scripture and our statements of faith on the beams and walls before they were closed up. The Team talked about what they were excited about, what they envisioned happening within the walls, and expressed thankfulness and praise to God.

What we are a part of is more than just a project; we are building the Kingdom of God, and it is so humbling to recognize all that He has done and is doing as we will soon see all the walls closed up and people fill the building.
